Rural Outreach Specialist

Program Name: Opioid Abatement & Trust/Emergency Solutions Grant

Works with the following population: Individuals and Families experiencing homelessness, mental health disabilities, and/or substance abuse disabilities. 

Location(s) this position will serve: Randolph, Clay, Stewart, Quitman, and Chattahoochee Counties

Days & Time: This position will work 40 hours a week. Monday through Friday. Most programs work from 8am to 5pm, with a one-hour lunchbreak.

Pay: $33,800 per year

Job Responsibilities:

The Rural Housing Outreach Specialist will perform outreach services in the community and work with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health and substance abuse disabilities. The candidate will also: 

  • Assist families with accessing resources and link them to needed services, while monitoring progress.
  • Identify needs and provide resources for local law enforcement, churches, family connection coordinators, and other community partners.
  • Educate communities on Narcan use along with distribution of Narcan.
  • Develop good working relationships with government and community resources.
  • Maintain client-related data tracking systems and document all services provided in electronic medical records.
  • Transport individuals to appropriate services, as needed.
  • Develop rapport with individuals
  • Encourage and support client participation in relevant activities and events. 
  • Provide advocacy for individuals to minimize barriers.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of services that meet the clients' needs. 
  • Help identify appropriate housing options for clients experiencing homelessness.
  • Other duties as assigned. 


Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED. At least two (2) years of experience working in behavioral health, substance abuse, or homelessness.

Preferred Qualifications: 

A Bachelor's degree in the field of Human Services. 3+ years' experience working with the homeless population. A Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), or eligible to become a CPS.
